Celebrating Family Reunification

On June 20th, in celebration of National Reunification Month, Our Kids, DCF and community partners joined together to recognize families involved in the child welfare system who have worked diligently to be reunified with their children. During the Reunification Celebration & Award Ceremony held at the Miami History Museum, nearly a dozen parents who have successfully reunified with their children were honored for their ongoing determination and commitment to resolve the issues that initially led to their involvement in the child welfare system. The special occasion was marked by a singing performance, a short story about the power of love, and a moving awards presentation. The parents were celebrated as their children’s heroes and the families received standing ovations from the attendees. Families and administrators also expressed heartfelt appreciation to the many case managers, attorneys, judges and child welfare partners who support parents’ efforts to reunify with their children.

FFCR is proud to be one of many organizations facilitating the reunification process when reunification is the permanency plan for a child in foster care. Our Citizen Review Panel Program and Permanency Roundtable Program volunteers and staff work together to assess whether parents are receiving and participating in the services they need to create safe and stable homes, and we determine whether parents are engaging in visitation to reinforce the child-parent bond.
